If you need good light in your home, office, garage, or any other place, then fluorescent light
may just be the light for you. Fluorescent light is great for a lot of reasons.
First off, it gives off a lot of light without giving off a lot of heat.
Second, it is pretty energy-efficient light that will use less wattage than incandescent lighting.
In fact, there are a lot of people who have switched to fluorescent light bulbs for their
standard lighting instead of using incandescent bulbs. While incandescent bulbs are cheaper to buy, they use more
power and burn out a lot quicker than fluorescent lights do. We have included a video on this site which provides a
more detailed explanation of some of the benefits of compact fluorescent lighting.
Another good thing about fluorescent lights is that they are relatively easy to install. You may
need to have an electrician put in the fixtures, but the fixtures will last a long time, and changing the actual
fluorescent light bulbs is easy for nearly anyone to do, and it will not cost you very much.
There is also a large variety of compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs and fixtures available.
Since fluorescent lighting has been utilized in standard sized bulbs, any light fixture can be outfitted with a
fluorescent bulb, not just fixtures specifically designed for them.
Of course, there are certain light bulbs that are made only for fluorescent fixtures, like those
long tube-like bulbs you see in a lot of industrial and office type settings, but these are fast becoming just
another way in which we utilize this brilliant light source.
Another good thing about newer fluorescent lights is that it does not look as “white” as it used
to. Fluorescent lights used to be known for its cold feel, and how it was just not very 'warm'. This made it
undesirable in some homes because people generally want warm lighting in their living space, and incandescent
lights are very warm in nature.
But, with the new fluorescent lights, you will notice more warmth than there used to be, making
them more and more ideal for any situation. In fact, you can hardly tell the difference between the different
lighting most of the time. The latest lights don’t even need to warm up like they used to… once you flip the
switch, they simply come on!
If you want to put fluorescent lighting in your home or building, here are a few things to think
about. First of all, do you need a lot of light, or just a little bit? For example, if you need a lot of light to,
say, light up a garage so that you can work on your car, then you might want to go with big industrial sized
fluorescent lights and fixtures that are whiter.
This will give you less warmth, but more of the raw light that you need to make it possible to
work on your vehicle. However, if you want desk lamp
for your office, or centerpiece lights at your coffee house, a warmer, lower wattage
compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL) in a standard lamp would work better. This would provide visual ambiance, and
would provide you with the warmth you need to make it feel right.
